I used to be big into the supernatural fandom too but then I got scared away by the high amount of queer fetishization and apologist “You’re famous so you can do whatever you want and any offense you create is INSTANTLY EXCUSED” that was show by some people in the fandom. Like when a certain someone made a tweet. And some people in the fandom got offended. And the majority of the fandom lashed out and personally attacked the people who got offended and said Misha is flawless and they were just too sensitive. And it’s like. UHH NO. If someone says something offensive I don’t fucking care if they were the king of spain saying something bigoted is not okay at all OOPS.
Also HEY QUEER PEOPLE ARE A LEGIT THING AND NOT JUST A FETISH TO GET STRAIGHT GIRLS OFF? Like not everyone from the Supernatural fandom was like that. But enough that I was ready to say “hahahahaha FUCK YOU” on a daily basis.
And so basically TL;DR the Supernatural fandom scares me sometimes because I can’t handle the amount of nasty-ness some people spread into the world.
I was going to send an ask but this was too long of a message SORRY
YEAH that was kind of my experience, too
like
“i will talk about how hot queerness is, and about how much i support (cis white male) queer people, and about how ~tolerant~ we all are around these parts, but when Real Live queer people get offended by things i/the show/the fandom does i am going to tell them to SHUT THE FUCK UP AND STOP BEING SO SENSITIVE, GET OUT, WE DON’T WANT YOU HERE, STOP TALKING”
fandom was just really really overwhelmingly hostile to me and uh
yeah
(don’t even get me started on the repeated misha controversies, jfc, FANDOM YOU ARE AWFUL)
similar feelings recently. ://

so i became the darkness.”christmas gifts ✧ for CatDean & Castiel
A Softer World: Supernatural
This ‘go back to season one’ thing is not working for me.
Part of the appeal of season one is that it really tried to be “if supernatural beings exist, and there were a network of people that knew about it, who saved other people and hunted these things, this is how it would go.” Season one had a kind of raw edge to it. It was brand new and didn’t mess with the cracky, self indulgent meta that season seven frequently resorts to.
Supernatural has an established rapport with the audience after seven years. We don’t need wordy, expository dialogue, which was an unfortunate trademark of early season one. By now, we know Sam and Dean. We’ve been with them for a long time. It’s not the same as it was in season one, where everything they did was a revelation into their psyche we hadn’t had time to probe yet.
Other characters bring life to the show and life to Sam and Dean. I don’t care how many people scream about how this is the ~Sam and Dean show~ and no one else matters. They were not developed in a void. They would not be Sam and Dean without each other, yes, but they wouldn’t be Sam and Dean without the choices other people made and the choices they made for other people. That means that those other characters aren’t speed bumps. They are essential to the depth of the storyline. Your friends and loved ones, mentors and enemies aren’t side notes in the story of your life. They’re not worthless or unimportant- they all helped make you who you are, even if you are who your life is about.
A back to basics formula in and of itself isn’t a wrong approach, but if you do it without a respect for the history that you’ve spent years building, then it’s going to be executed wrong. You can’t pretend the angels don’t exist. We’ve spent three seasons establishing that they are real. Your audience isn’t going to forget that. You can’t expect people to get excited about new characters when all you’ve done is kill off the old ones.
You can’t expect me to want to watch Sam and Dean lose everything and gain nothing in return.

not ever going to understand why the winchesters have to be totally and completely alone. there are aspects of season 1 i’d like to bring back, but a complete return is just nonsense. oh is there any hope?

Arthur: Just because you don’t understand something, it doesn’t mean it’s wrong!
Sam: Don’t thank me. I’m not doing it for you. Or for the angels or for anybody. This is my choice.

Flynn: I didn’t want to have to do this, but you leave me no choice. Here comes…the smolder.
Dean: I think I’m adorable.
